How Long Have You Been With Pheasants Forever?
9 years
What’s Your Favorite Pheasants Forever Event?
Every Pheasants Forever banquet across the country is fun and unique in its own way. I also feel a great sense of humility when attending land dedication events; seeing fundraising dollars converted into permanent land open to the public forever; that’s awe inspiring. However, I admit that my absolute favorite Pheasants Forever event of the entire year is the Bird Dog Parade that kicks off National Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic each year. I love bird dogs and would own one of every breed if I were able. The Bird Dog Parade combines my love of dogs with the excitement of our signature event in a new town every year. If you haven’t ever attended, it’s a must-see bucket list event that will turn into a yearly pilgrimage.
What’s the Best Part about Being Involved with Pheasants Forever?
I am a big fan of programs that open up private lands to public hunting. Nebraska’s CRP-MAP, Kansas’ WIHA, South Dakota’s Walk-In program and Iowa & Minnesota’s new Voluntary Public Access Programs are initiatives I’m proud our organization has played a role in creating, maintaining and improving. When I think about the North American Model of Wildlife, these private lands programs fit into that model beautifully.
What Are You Looking Forward to During Pheasants Forever’s Rooster Road Trip 2011?
Like many of you, I’ve read all the reports about a significant decline in pheasant numbers. The harsh winter, wet spring in the north, summer drought in the Great Plains and massive CRP losses across the country have certainly taken their toll on pheasant numbers. I’m anxious to put boot leather to the dirt and see for myself what the landscape looks like for birds this year.
