Pheasant Fest 2007 Kids get involved in a peformance with WildHeart in the Youth Village. Rudy congratulates winners of the Youth Wildlife Art Contest. Youth and dogs were in the limelight of the Bird Dog Parade through the downtown Des Moines Skyway. Rudy the Rooster and 29 different dog breeds kicked off the 2007 Pheasant Fest with the Bird Dog Parade. Dogs and handlers from across the midwest joined the march for habitat through the Des Moines Skyway. People lined the downtown skyway to watch the Bird Dog Parade. Rudy the Rooster was a big hit with the kids. Rudy joined the Des Moines Mayor for the ribbon cutting ceremony for Pheasant Fest 2007. With the ribbon cut, the festivities began. Attendees anxiously awaited the opening of Pheasant Fest 2007. The doors opened and over 24,500 people attended the biggest Pheasant Fest yet. Nine of the twenty members of the Youth Leadership Council travel to Des Moines to help run the Youth Village. Attendees helped Waterloo's Rick Morkel paint an original masterpiece which was donated to Pheasants Forever. Everyone's dogs were tired after a fun-filled weekend. Young artists from across the midwest put their artwork on display in the Youth Village Wildlife Art Contest. Rudy made a whole host of friends during the Bird Dog Parade. Only Rudy the Rooster is capable of a smile while surrounded by five golden retrievers. Fans of all ages waved and cheered as Rudy and 29 dog breeds paraded by. Even the Iowa DNR got to meet their favorite bird, face to face. Rudy visits the Cabelas display on the show floor of Pheasant Fest 2007. Kids were able to experience using a corn-husking machine at the The Crossman Air-Rifle Range was very popular with kids and adults. Everyone had smiles on their faces throughout the entire weekend. Pheasants weren't the only birds to make an appearance, this hawk was a huge hit. Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman, Tom Harkin, and PF's Director of Governmental Affairs, Dave Nomsen enjoy a laugh at the Friday Night Pheasant Feed. Pheasant Fest Attendees admire hand crafted decoys by long-time PF supporter and artist, Bob Kroese. Press gathered for the Farm Bill Forum. The speakers of the Farm Bill Forum. Senate Ag Committee Chairman, Tom Harkin;  House Ag Committee Chairman, Collin Peterson and House Ag Sub-Committee Chairman Leonard Boswell discuss the FarmBill 2007 key points at the Farm Bill Forum. The first ever PF Dog Life Member, Bridget, and her handler, Jim Farrell. Senate Ag Committee Chairman, Tom Harkin;  House Ag Committee Chairman, Collin Peterson and House Ag Sub-Committee Chairman Leonard Boswell in a spirited conversation after the Farm Bill Forum. Seminars discussing many hot topics were presented throughout the weekend. In the Youth Village, kids colored their very own Rudy the Rooster button. The Saturday Luncheon was attended by many. Families enjoyed playing with the Bird Dog Alley's many breeds of dogs (and of course the puppies). Purina's Dog Pros shared their expertise on the Bird Dog Bonanza Stage. WildHeart's presentations involved the youth and a wide variety of props. Kids and adults loved the Game Scene Investigation booth, observing wildlife tracks and clues to solve an outdoor mystery. There were many touching moments at Pheasant Fest. The next generation of farmers got their first taste of the newest equipment. Pheasants were abundant at Pheasant Fest 2007. Teddy Roosevelt impersonator, James Foote, was one of many lively characters at Pheasant Fest 2007. This setter was part of the presentation on leash training on the Bird Dog Bonanza Stage. The young pup and the old gent relaxing in a lounge chair. Cooking seminars were abundant as were tips and tricks to preparing pheasants and other game. Puppy kisses! PF Board Member, Tobias Buck, received an award for his $1,000,000 commitment to Pheasants Forever for youth and education programs. Jim Wooley, a LONGTIME supporter and employee was given an award by PF and his family for his over 20 years of service. The National Pheasants Forever Banquet raised over $100,000 for habitat projects and youth education in the state of Iowa. This young pup grabs a quick nap during the busy hustle and bustle of Pheasant Fest 2007. Kids enjoyed many crafts and activities in the Yough Village.
